A moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolte
d some parts of the country including Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet Wednesday morning.
There was no immediate report of casualties or damage in the earthquake that was felt at 7:41:52am.
The epicentre of the quake was in Myanmar-India border, some 495 kilometres north-east off Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) Seismic Centre in Dhaka, said Md Rasheduzzaman, a meteorologist of BMD.
The US Geological Survey however measured the quake 5.8 on the Richter scale.
It said the quake had a depth of 90.5km.
