Journalists in Sylhet have given a 48-hour ultimatum to the authority concerned for removal of Social Welfare Minister Mohsin Ali for his derogatory remarks on media workers.

The ultimatum came up with their repeated demand while attending a protest programme at Sylhet Press Club on Monday afternoon.

While addressing the protest, President of Sylhet Press Club Iqbal Siddique said: “As part of our ongoing movement for removal of the minister, the journalists will form a human chain in the city at 11am on Tuesday.”

“The local journalists will also keep a one inch-empty space in all local newspapers on Tuesday. They will also observe a one-hour work-abstention for three days from the day.”

He also demanded an investigation over the speeches of the prime minister and finance minister, which Mohsin Ali quoted.

Later, the journalists also announced to boycott all the programmes of the minister in Sylhet.

Social Welfare Minister, widely known as “smoking minister” since his controversial act of last January, called journalists “Khobish,” a Bangla slang, which roughly means disgusting and dirty.

While addressing a discussion programme in Sylhet on Saturday, the minister also said journalists were “uneducated, non-graduates and characterless.”
