The second day of the BNP-led 18-party alliance’s 48-hour countrywide hartal, demanding the cancellation of Sunday’s election results, is passing off slackly without any incident of violence today (Tuesday).
The shutdown that will end at 6:00am Wednesday is also meant for protesting the arrest of opposition leaders and activists.
In the capital, any picketing of opposition activists centering the shutdown was not seen in the morning.
Movement of public transport on the city streets was somewhat more than the previous day while rickshaws, CNG-run auto-rickshaws and battery-run easy-bikes were dominating there.
However, no long-route bus departed from or arrived in the city during the hartal.
Law enforcers took position at different strategic points to fend off any trouble.
On the other hand, any sort of incident of picketing centering the hartal was not reported from elsewhere in the country.
The first day of the hartal passed off peacefully.
The opposition alliance’s fresh hartal call came hours after the closure of voting for the 10th national election on Sunday that saw low voter turnout and massive violence, leaving 19 people dead across the country.
Meanwhile, the opposition asked the government to quit and take initiative for holding the election under a non-party caretaker government through talks.

I would thank Sheikh Hasina for her absolute majority gained through this election held on the 5th of January which has ctreated a histry in the country. This victory is the vistory of peoples of Bangladesh and defeat of anti-Bangladeshi including the USA and Pakistan. Indian once again has bee proved to be our solid, hones and dedicated friend. India should support Sheikh Hasina and her new government in defeating those anti-humanity and anit-Bangladesh activists who called people to boycot and resist this election and proved to be terribly failed. Now, Hasina immediately should use law agencies to find out all of them who ordered, helped, supported and materialized all those killing, burning, looting, destroying railways, stopping people to move etc. and try them in few very special tribunals and hang them in 6 months time from today…… ONLY THIS ACTION SHALL BRING PEACE AND STABILITY IN THE COUNTRY AND NO OTHER WAY, SHE MUST NOT SIT WITH THOSE WAR-CRIMINALS SITTING IN LONDON….
