4 Bangladeshis die in Saudi road crash

Four Bangladeshi workers and a Saudi citizen were killed in a road accident at Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

 

The four Bangladeshi deceased were identified as Sheikh Harun, son of Sheikh Abdul Khalek of Faridganj, Chandpur, Abdul Halim, son of Abdul Majid Mia of Nagrapur, Tangail, M Yeasin, son of Nurul Islam of Brahmanbaria Sadar and Amanullah, son of Habibullah of Nangalkot, Comilla.

 

The accident took place in the afternoon as a vehicle carrying five Bangladeshi workers and two Pakistan citizens overturned and veered off the road at Lith nearly 250 km off Jeddah as the Saudi driver lost control over the steering due to over-speed, Nazmul Islam, consul general of Bangladesh Consulate, Jeddah told UNB.

 

He said the driver of the vehicle and two Bangladeshis died on the spot while three other Bangladeshi workers were injured critically.

 

O the injured, two other Bangladeshis died after taking to a hospital.

 

The fifth Bangladeshi, Kazi Shahjahan son of Rustom Kazi of Sadarpur, Faridpur is undergoing treatment at a hospital. He is stable and out of danger, said Nazmul.

 

The bodies of the four Bangladeshis have been kept at a mortuary of the hospital.

 

Nazmul said the five Bangladeshi workers who were working at Qunfuda nearly 400km off Jeddah came to the Consulate office to renew their passports.

 

They met the tragic accident while returning to their workplace in a hired vehicle (SUV) after renewing their passports.

 

UNB Comilla correspondent adds: Hearing Aman’s death news, a pall of gloom descended upon his family members in Nangalkot upazila of Comilla district.

 

Aman’s wife Khaleda Akhter said they have two school-going children—Faisal ,10, and Sumaya, 5.

 

The woman in an emotion-choked voice urged the government to take necessary steps to bring back home her husband’s body for burial.

 

Family sources said Aman went to Saudi Arabia in 2001.
