A court in Netrokona on Tuesday has sentenced four men to 37 years of imprisonment for abduction and rape of a girl in 2004.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Abdul Hamid of Netrokona’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Special Tribunal-2 announced the verdict on Tuesday.
The convicts are Abul Hossain, ‘Amirul’ and Al-Amin from Mohonganj Upazila’s Pano village and ‘Oli’ of Noljuri village.
Subhash Monju Khandaker, the tribunal’s Additional PP told reporters that the convicted men had kidnapped a girl of Pano village in Jan 11, 2004.
She was later taken to Dhaka and was held captive at a place for three months and was repeatedly raped. Police later rescued her.
A case was filed on Apr 4, 2004 in Mohonganj Police Station. The case’s Investigating Officer submitted the chargesheet against the quartet on July 4.
Apart from 30 years of jail term the four were also fined Tk 100,000 for rape. Inability to pay the fine will lead to 5 more years of rigorous jail term. Each of them was sentenced to another seven years in prison and fine of Tk 20,000 for kidnapping. Inability to pay the fine will increase the jail term by a year.
