3 held for influencing election in Dhaka
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) detained three persons for “distributing money to influence and instigate violence” in Dhaka city’s Motijheel today.
They are Joynal Abedin, general manager of Amena Enterprise, Alamgir Hossain, a manager of the same firm, and Ali Haider, managing director of United corporation.
Benazir Ahmed, director general of Rab, declared their arrests at a press conference and said Tk 8 crore in cash and Tk 10 crore in cheque were seized from their possession.
They distributed about Tk 1.5 crore in various constituencies so far to initiate violence and influence the election, the Rab official said.
The two officials of Amena Enterprise were involved with United Corporation; and one of the three detainees had previous link with Hawa Bhaban, he said.
Pre-polls violence has occurred in all the constituencies where money from United Corporation has reached, claimed the Rab DG. The money has come in from Dubai via hundi.
