3 die falling off train in capital

Too Risky: The train is full at 4:30pm at the airport station in the capital on Tuesday and so people are climbing on to its roof until they get enough space to stand there to travel home ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. They are seemingly oblivious to the risk of a fatal accident as they look forward to spending the holidays with their loved ones.

Three people were killed after falling off the roof of a train at Gendaria railway station in the capital on Wednesday.

Deceased are Zakir Hossain, 30, Nuru Mia, 40, and Nazrul Islam, 35.

Four passengers, who were travelling on the rooftop of the train, fell to the ground after being hit by the rooftop of the platform at Gendaria station, said Anwar Kamal, a sub-inspector of Dhaka Railway Police Station.

Zakir died on the spot while Nuru and Nazrul succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Identity of another could not be confirmed immediately.

The train was going to Kamalapur Railway Station from Narayanganj.
