In his opening speech, the minister said tourism was a key industry for Bangladesh.
“In 2013, we earned Tk 8.3 billion from the sector, which was 2.1 percent of the GDP.”
The government was sincere in the development of the industry, he said.
Tour Operators of Bangladesh have organised the fair for the fifth time.
The fair will be open from 10am to 8pm every day till June 3.
Organisers said there were over 100 stalls at the fair, including tour operators from India, Nepal, Bhutan, Indonesia and other countries.
Bangladesh Tourism Board CEO Akhtaeruzzaman asked the commerce minister to allow duty-free import of cars for tourism businesses.
Tour Operators of Bangladesh member Moniruzzaman Masud said they wanted the cars to provide better service to tourists.
“And this income will be added to the GDP,” he added.
