Three United Nations peacekeepers from Bangladesh were killed and four others were injured on Sunday in explosion of a powerful improvised explosive device planted in the ground by a terrorist group in West African country Mali, said Inter Services Public Relation Directorate.
The deceased Bangladeshi peacekeepers were Sergeant Altaf of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps (Dinajpur), Lance Corporal Zakirul of Artillery Regiment (Netrokona) and Soldier Monwar of East Bengal Regiment (Barisal), according to an ISPR release posted on its official website.

‘During peacekeeping in Mali of Africa on September 23, 2017, Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers and terrorists locked in a clash and our peacekeepers successfully off-set the attack,’ the ISPR release said.
‘As a sequel of the clash, the Bangladeshi peacekeepers came under attack again by another stronger terrorist group as they were returning to their camp after performing their duties. They bravely off-set the attack but three were killed and four others injured as the IED planted by the terrorists exploded,’ the release added.
The injured peacekeepers were shifted to Gaon town for better treatment, it said.
