27 organisations call 24-hour shutdown from Friday 6pm

Twenty-seven organisations including Sector Commanders’ Forum, Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee and Sammilita Sanghkritik Jote have called a 24-hour shutdown from Friday 6:00pm to prevent the long march of the Hefajat-e Islam and demanding a ban on Jamaat-Shibir politics.

The other demand of the organisations includes trial of war criminals who committed crimes against humanity during the country’s Liberation War in 1971, Shahriar Kabir, executive president of Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, told The Daily Star Wednesday night.

Peshajibi Samannay Parishad is among the organisations who called the shutdown, he added.

The organisations will arrange a press briefing on the TSC premises of the Dhaka University at 10:30am on Thursday to reveal the detail of their activities relating to the shutdown, Shahriar Kabir added.

  1. The personalities named above are greatly responsible for creating divides among the people who fought the occupation army with rock-solid unity. We are sure that to implement the agenda of their masters they have been untiringly making efforts to create more divides among our people so that they cannot stand united even in the face of foreign aggression. Our two big parties claim to be patriotic but they forgot that creating division among people in whatever name or excuse is anti-people and therefore anti-nation. Unfortunately both the parties have failed to stand up against the clandestine scheme of interested quarters and pushed the country to the verge of a ‘failed state’. How unfortunate we are!
