Foreign diplomats from 20 countries are relaxing on the world’s longest sea beach at Cox’s Bazar while on a three-day visit.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam is with them.
They visited the reconstructed Buddhist monastery at Ramu Upazila on Tuesday morning.
The team of envoys first went to see the 100ft statue of Buddha on a lion throne, and then went to the Bimukti Bidarshan Bhabna Kendra, a temple at Uttar Mithachhari village in Ramu.
Karunashri Thera, head monk of the reconstructed Bimukti Bidarshan Bhabna Kendra temple, and its General Secretary journalist Nitish Barua received the diplomats with flowers.
Later, they visited the Ramu Central Sima Bihar, where Chief Pundit of the Bihar Satyapriya Mohathero welcomed them.
Local lawmaker Saimum Sarwar Kamal, senior government officials and Buddhist leaders were present at the function.
The envoys appreciated the quick restoration of the Buddhist temples and monasteries with government help.
The Ramu Central Seema Bihar had been badly damaged and burnt by extremists on Sep 29, 2012.
Later, they visited the dry-fish processing plant at Teknaf.
The envoys flew from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar district town on Monday afternoon on a three-day tour of the picturesque region.
Envoys representing various countries include Russia, Pakistan, Brazil, the Netherlands, Singapore, Turkey, Nepal, Bhutan, the Maldives, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam and North Korea.
Heads of a number of international organisations are also on the tour.
They played beach volleyball at the Inani Beach and flew kites.
They will join a special party at a resort adjacent to the beach on Tuesday evening.
They will fly back to Dhaka on Wednesday morning.
