2 ‘militants’ held for Ashulia bank robbery

Three days into the Ashulia bank robbery that left eight people dead, police arrested two “militants” for their alleged involvement with the deadly incident.

Police said the arrested involvement in a militant group and earlier they worked for Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Dhaka Range DIG Mahfuzul Haq Nuruzzaman arranged a press conference in this regard and briefed the media today.

He said the duo, Babul Sarker and Mintu Prodhan, were arrested from their rented house at Tongi’s Komla area last night. The detainees were paraded before the media.

Police also seized jihadi books, 5 machetes, and huge amount of bomb making explosive from their possession, the police official said.

In broad daylight heist last Tuesday, about 8 to 10 armed looters stormed into the Kathgora branch of Bangladesh Commerce Bank and shot down seven people.

Locals managed to get hold of two robbers. One of them was beaten to death in mass beating while the other was handed over to police.
