This September 19 photo shows two burning buses that pro-hartal activists set fire in Barisal city on Thursday, the second day of 48-hour hartal (shutdown) enforced by Jamaat-e-Islami.

Two more victims, who suffered burn injuries during the last week’s 48-hour hartal enforced by Jamaat-e-Islami, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday.

Bus driver Nazrul Islam, 45, succumbed to his injuries at the burn unit of the DMCH around 6:30am while truck driver Sikandar Bepari, 42, at about 10:00am, hospital sources said.

Sikandar suffered 52 percent burn injuries when hartal supporters set fire to his truck in Chouddagram upazila of Comilla Wednesday night.

More than 60 percent of Nazrul’s body was burnt as pro-hartal activists set his bus on fire at Bhogra by-pass in Gazipur on Thursday.

Jamaat enforced the 48-hour hartal (shutdown) from Wednesday to protest a Supreme Court verdict that sentenced its leader Abdul Quader Mollah to death for his wartime offences.

The SC Tuesday awarded Mollah death penalty, overruling the judgment of International Crimes Tribunal-2 that had given him life term for war crimes committed during country’s Liberation War in 1971.
