140 policemen join UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan

A 140-member contingent of Bangladesh Police left Dhaka for South Sudan early Sunday to join the United Nations peacekeeping mission.

 

The team, led by Superintendent of Police Md Humayun Kabir, left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by an UN chartered flight.

 

Senior police officials were present at the airport to see them off.

 

The contingent will replace existing BANFPU in South Sudan.

 

Sources at the Police Headquarters said 17,00 Bangladeshi policemen have been performing their duties efficiently in different UN Peacekeeping Missions in various countries, including Congo, South Sudan, Darfur, Ivory Coast, Mali and Haiti.
