Annual income of 153 MPs elected uncontested is more than 387 aspirants for the rest 147 seats in the 10th parliamentary election, according to Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan).
Badiul Alam Majumder, secretary of Sujan, a platform of civil society working for good governance, read out the report at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club.
The report was made analysing information of the candidates’ education, jobs, police cases, annual income, properties and loan they have submitted to the Election Commission.
Sujan has prepared the report comparing the indicators of the 153 who have elected unopposed and the rest 387.
According to the report, annual income of 32 out of 387 is more than Tk 1 crore while annual income of 28 out of 153 is Tk 1 crore.
Of the total 540 aspirants, only 271 submit tax returns.
Out of 387, 50.18 percent submit tax returns while 64.70 percent of 153 pay tax.
Badiul said the 86 aspirants did not provide information, on the other hand, several did not mention price of their properties.
Total 226 out of 387 took loan while 89 out of 153 took loan at different times.
Twenty two out of 153 elected unopposed and 37 out of 387 lawmaker aspirants are facing different criminal charges.
Of the 540 aspirants, 43 passed SSC, 60 HSC, 202 completed graduation, 180 completed post graduation and three did not mention their educational qualification.
Beside, 282 out of 387 have shown business as their profession while 81 out of 153 are involved with business, according to the report.
