Fifteen people, including 10 doctors and a sanitary inspector, have been sent on home-quarantine after a lab technician of Faridganj Health Complex tested positive for coronavirus in Chandpur.

Chandpur Civil Surgeon Dr Md Sakhawat Ullah on Thursday told UNB that the lab technician was positive for coronavirus in test on Wednesday.

Later, hospital’s Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Ashraf Ahmed Chowdhury, nine medical officers and some nurses were sent on home-quarantine, he said.

Samples of 14 of them were sent to Dhaka for coronavirus test, the civil surgeon said.

Meanwhile, a youth from Matlab Uttar upazila and a child from Shahrasti upazila have died with fever and cough.

Dr Nusrat Jahan Mithen, Matlab Uttar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, said the 32-year-old youth died at his home in Shikirkandi village around 2pm on Thursday after suffering from fever, cough and sneezing for the last few days.

Meanwhile, a six-year-old boy died with fever, cough and pneumonia at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital on Wednesday night, said Md Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Shahrasti Police Station.

The boy was first admitted to Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Comilla Medical College Hospital and finally sent to the DMCH where he died.

The samples of both the deceased were collected and sent for test.

Bangladesh has so far confirmed 1,572 coronavirus cases and 60 deaths from the highly contagious virus.

Of those, the country confirmed a record number of 341 positive cases and 10 deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours till Thursday.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the highly infectious disease has reached 136,032 as of Thursday afternoon.
