The publisher, printer and a third person have been taken into remand over the publication of a book, ‘Islam Bitorko’, a book that allegedly contains elements that may hurt religious sentiments.

The three are owner of publishing firm Ba-Dwip Shamsuzzoha Manik, its marketing division head Shamsul Alam, and printing house Shabdakoli Printers’ proprietor Taslimuddin Kajal.

Earlier, they had been arrested in a case filed under ICT Act for publishing the book.

With a plea for a seven-day remand, police produced the three before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Amirul Haider.

The magistrate granted five days for Manik, two days for Kajal and one day for Alam.

Previously, on charges of selling a book with contents that have the potential to injure religious sentiments, police have filed a case against Publisher Shamsuzzoha Manik, Publisher of Badwip Prakashan and two others- Shamsul Alam, the stall’s manager, and Fakir Taslim Uddin Kajol, owner of the book’s printing press.

Dhaka Metropolitan DC (Ramna zone) Abdul Baten disclosed the incident in a press briefing held in Shahbag police station on Tuesday afternoon.

The DMP official said, “We have received information about ‘the religious provocative book’ from different social media site and the intelligence unit’s report. We have kept eyes on social networking media to spot such message.”

He said that they filed the case under the Information and Communication Technology Act.

Earlier on Monday police shut down their stall at the Amar Ekushey Boi Mela.
