Food Minister Qamrul Islam on Friday urged the Ministry of Information for taking action against two private satellite television channels for telecasting the speech of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.

“The falsehood resorted by Tarique Rahman is a new strategy of the BNP’s movement. I earnestly request the Ministry of Information to take action against the two channels that telecast his speech after downloading the video from Youtube,” he said.

He further said, “Tarique has been spreading falsehood to divert the new generation towards ruination.”

Qamrul, also the joint general secretary of the ruling Awami League’s Dhaka city unit, was addressing a discussion organised by Deshratna Parishad at the National Press Club.

About the BNP’s demand for a dialogue for holding a fresh inclusive national election, he said: “We’re always holding talks with the people. We won’t hold any talks with any party or group. No parliamentary elections will be held in the country before 2019.”

Presided over by Awami League leader Chittaranjan Das, the programme was addressed, among others, by Awami League central publicity and publication secretary Hasan Mahmud and journalist Altaf Mahmud.
