Six including four of a family killed as truck ploughs through market in Bogra

A total of six persons, including four of a family, died on the spot and ten others were seriously wounded when a truck driver lost his control over the steering and ploughed into a local bazaar at Boghopara on Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Bogra on Saturday. Witness Shahidul of Pirgacha said around 10:00am, a pick-up van of 43 Border Guard Bangladesh was taking a u-turn on the highway while a Rangpur bound truck that came closer to the van lost control and entered into the roadside market. Witnesses blamed the driver of the BGB pick-up van for ignoring other traffic while taking a u-turn in a busy area. The BGB van fled immediately after the accident, he said. The truck hit at least four rickshaws parked on the Boghopara bazar area, said the witness. The victims were shoppers and rickshaw riders. The victims have been identified as Afroza, her son Bishal, mother, Shanto and brother Shamim. The other two victims are Noya Mia and Ahmed Ali. All were residents of Bhagopara. Assistant police super of Bogra police station, Gaziur Rahman, said that the injured were rushed to the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and hospital. Meanwhile, local people after the accident blocked the highway at 10:20am protesting the killings while police tried to control the situation, said Gaziur Rahman.
