The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday interrogated former Rajuk chairman and four others in three cases filed against former Housing and Public Works secretary Dr Khondaker Showkat Hossain for allegedly taking government plots abusing power.

ACC investigation officer and deputy director Jatan Kumar Roy quizzed them from 10 am to 4 pm at the ACC head office, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.

The ACC today questioned former Rajuk chairman M Nurul Huda, director general of Non-Formal Education Bureau Akhter Hossain Bhuiyan (former DCC North administrator), joint secretary of Water Resources Ministry Khijir Ahmed, joint secretary of Food Ministry Mahbub Ul Alam (then Rajuk member, development) and additional secretary Anwarul Islam Shikder (former Rajuk member, planning).

Rajuk (Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha) directors Mohammad Musa and Syed Nazrul Islam, deputy director Iqbal Ahsan and assistant director Abu Musa were also interrogated on May 8 last in connection with the allegation.

On April 22 last, Jatan Kumar Roy filed the three cases against Dr Showkat with Motijheel Police Station in the capital.

According to ACC sources, Dr Showkat Hossain, now Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment secretary, has taken three plots against the names of his family members abusing his power when he was the Housing and Public Works secretary.

As per the Rajuk rules, the husband and wife cannot be owners of its separate plots, but Showkat has taken three plots in the government quota in his name and that of his wife, Dr Ayesha Begum, and mother.
