The High Court on Sunday granted interim bail to BNP joint secretary general Salauddin Ahmed for six months in two cases.

An HC division bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Mohammad Jahangir Hossain passed the order.

Police arrested the BNP leader in the city on April 8. Later, he was shown arrested in four cases.

Salauddin was rearrested at the jail gate on May 16 when he came out of the jail after securing bail in all the four cases.

Later, he was again shown arrested in two other cases filed with Sher-e-Banglanagar and Tajgaon Police Stations.

A lower court on Wednesday rejected the BNP leader’s bail petition in the two cases.

Later, he moved to the High Court with a bail petition.

Senior lawyer Khandakar Mahbub Hossain who appeared for the BNP leader, said now there is no bar to the release of Salauddin following the High Court order.

Deputy attorney general Khandakar Diliruzaman stood for the state.

Meanwhile, another HC bench comprising Justice Kazi Reza-ul-Haque and  Justice ABM Altaf Hossain asked the authorities concerned not to harass or arrest BNP joint secretary general Amanullah Aman without following due process of law.

The court also issued a rule upon the authorities as to why they should not be directed not to arrest or not to harass Aman without following due process of law

The court came up with the order and the rule while hearing a writ petition filed by the BNP leader.

Aman was rearrested at the jail gate on May 19 after his release.

The same day, he was shown arrested in a case filed with Paltan Police Station for attack on cops and bomb blast near the BNP central office.

A metropolitan magistrate court on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of Aman.

Fearing that police may again arrest him if he gets bail in the case, the BNP leader filed the writ petition with the HC.

Advocate Jainul Abedin stood for Aman.
