A Rohingya man was stabbed to death and his brother was injured in a knife attack by their compatriot at Kutupalang camp at Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Mamtazullah, 40, from Kiyari Prang of North Maungdaw in Myanmar.
Victim’s younger brother Muhibbullah, 35, was also injured in the attack allegedly carried out by their fellow Arifullah. All of them were living at unit 13 of Kutupalang camp.
Mamtazullah’s wife Sanjida alleged that Arifullah attacked her husband following several altercations between Mamtazullah and Arifullah in past few days.
Arifullah swooped on Mamtazullah with knife and stabbed him to death about noon on Saturday. Hearing his screams, Mamtazullah’s bother Muhibbulah rushed the spot and tried to save his elder. He also sustained stab injuries, said Rohingyas.
Police recovered Mamtazullah’s body and sent it to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital for autopsy. Muhibbullah was also admitted to the hospital.
Ukhia police station officer-in-charge Abul Khair said that they arrested Arifullah.
