Road crashes kill 10 in 3 districts

Ten people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Brahmanbari, Magura and Gazipur districts on Saturday.

 

In Brahmanbaria, six people were killed and three others injured as a tractor hit two CNG-run autorickshaws on Comilla-Sylhet highway at Uttar Shuhilpur in sadar  upazila this noon.

 

The deceased were identified as autorickshaw driver Shah Alam, Madan Mohan Sarker,50, of Lakahi upazila of Habiganj, Nandalal Sarker,48, Jagadish Sarker,25,  Ratindra Sarker,30 and Illias Miah,25.

 

Witnesses said two autorckshaws fell into a ditch after being hit by a tractor around 12 pm, leaving four people dead on the spot and five others injured.

 

Among the injured, two people died at sadar hospital.

 

Vehicular movement on Comilla-Sylhet highway was disrupted for an hour following the accident. Police seized the tractor its the driver fled the scene.

 

In Magura, two people were killed in separate road accidents in Shalikha and Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday.

 

The deceased were identified as Billal Hossain,35, son of Fazlul Haque of Shatakhali village in Shalikha upazila, and Laila Begum, 60, a resident of College Para in the town.

 

Syed Abdullah, officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station, said Billal Hossain, a day labourer, was hit by a speeding bus on the Magura-Jessore Highway of the upazila, leaving him dead on the spot at around 9:00am.

 

Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Laila Begum, a pedestrian, was knocked down by a motorcycle and critically injured in the town on Friday evening.

 

She was rushed to Sadar hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

 

In Gazipur, a Mymensingh bound truck hit a CNG-run autorickshaw at Nayanpur in Sreepur upazila on Dhaka-Mymensigh highway, leaving two people dead and two others injured around 11:30  am.

 

One of the deceased was identified as Shohag,26.
