Rickshaw-puller injured from constable’s accidental gunfire in Paltan

A rickshaw-puller has been injured when a shotgun shell escaped mistakenly from a police constable’s gun in Dhaka’s Paltan intersection on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said the incident occurred due to the negligence on the part of a police constable.

On duty officials at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost confirmed that bullet from the shotgun of a constable on duty at Paltan left rickshaw-puller Md Hanif, 35, wounded in the chest, hands and back.

Hanif was admitted to DMCH around 3pm by Paltan police.

DMP Motijheel Division Deputy Commissioner Anwar Hossain told reporters that bullets exited the shotgun of an on-duty constable by mistake, leaving the rickshaw-puller injured.

He added that the matter was being investigated and action would be taken against the police officer if he was found guilty of any negligence.
