Reshma Begum, the 19-year-old girl who was rescued alive nearly 400 hours after the Rana Plaza collapsed, hails from Dinajpur.

She said she was working on the second floor of the ill-built nine-storey commercial building when it came crushing down on the morning of Apr 24 near the Savar bus stand.

“Reshma had got stuck under the pile of clothes of the New Wave Bottoms factory after the collapse,” General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Bangladesh Army’s 9th Infantry Division Major General Chowdhury Hasan Suhrawardy told reporters.

“She hails from Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat Upazila,” he added.

He said her colleagues were also trapped inside there but could not be pulled out alive from the ruins of the building.

Earlier Reshma was miraculously located alive under the rubble 16 days after the worst ever building collapse tragedy in Bangladesh’s history.

She was pulled out alive at around 4:26pm and rushed to the Combined Military Hospital. The rescuers said the girl was ‘almost unhurt’.

The nine-story commercial building located near the Savar Bus Stand came crushing down on Apr 24 killing at least 1000 people so far.

The army member said two people came to the hospital claiming to be Reshma’s relatives.

One of them was Asma who claimed to be her sister and said they were from Dinajpur.

Asma said one Razzaq was the husband of Reshma.

Chowdhury Hasan Suhrawardy said another came from Rajbari and claimed that she was her aunt.
