Public holiday for Thursday to mourn Zillur

The Cabinet on Thursday declared a public holiday for the day, applicable for all institutions including schools and banks, to mourn the death of President Zillur Rahman.

Immediately after 11:00am, Cabinet Secretary Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan announced the decision at a news briefing at the Prime Minister’s Office. He said the decision would be effective immediately.

Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina chaired the meeting.

Rahman died at Singapore on Wednesday after fighting for life for 11 days.

On Wednesday, the government announced three days of mourning starting Thursday.

The national flag was flying half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous and private institutions on Thursday.
