Polls in 2019 under Sheikh Hasina: Nasim

Observing that the caretaker government is now a dead issue, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim on Thursday said the next general election will be held in 2019 under the Sheikh Hasina-led government.

“The caretaker government issue can’t stage a comeback as it’s now a dead one,” he said while addressing a public rally as the chair in Mujibnagar at Sheikh Hasina Mancha.

The ruling Awami League organised the rally marking the Mujibnagar Day where Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu spoke as the chief guest while Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed as a special guest.

Pointing to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, Nasim said their movement will be in no use. “You (Khaleda) can’t get any benefit from your movements after movements.”

In his speech, the Industries Minister said, “We should take a fresh vow to resist the mass enemy of the country who hatched a conspiracy to create a constitutional vacuum in the country.”

The Commerce Minister said Ziaur Rahman served as a Major under the Mujibnagar government and fought against the Pakistani occupation forces. “Later, Bangabandhu promoted him to Lt Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier and Major General.”

Earlier, the ruling party leaders placed wreathes at the Memorial Monument at Mujibnagar marking the day.
