In a message to her Malaysian counterpart Najib Abdul Razak, Hasina also conveyed her “deepest sympathies” to the members and relatives of the bereaved families who lost their beloved ones.

The foreign ministry said the prime minister also prayed that almighty may grant “eternal peace to the departed souls and courage and fortitude to the families of the victims to bear the loss”.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali also expressed his shock in a message to his Malaysian counterpart Anifah Haji Aman.

Washington strongly suspected the Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777, carrying 295 people, was downed by a sophisticated surface-to-air missile fired by Ukrainian separatists backed by Moscow.

There were no survivors from Thursday’s crash, which left wreckage and bodies scattered across miles of rebel-held territory near Ukraine’s border with Russia.
