Senior BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, however, was all praise about Joy’s late father Wazed Mia during Wednesday’s media briefing.
The BNP has described the remarks made by the prime minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy about its chairperson Khaleda Zia as ‘indecent and beyond political etiquettes.’
Speaking at media briefing on Wednesday, the party’s senior leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came down hard on Joy over his Facebook post, saying that it lacks the minimum ‘decency’.
“If he ever comes to power, then it will be hard for decent people to live in this country,” said the BNP’s senior joint secretary general.
Addressing a May Day rally on Sunday, Khaleda asked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to have her son Joy questioned in custody over his ‘$300 million stashed away in banks.’
Joy hit back at the former prime minister on social media the same day.
“A woman who has stolen money from orphans, one whose son is a fugitive accused by the FBI for corruption, really should not be throwing mud at Bangabandhu’s grandson.
“Madam, if you know where the $300 million is, please let me know. I would like to donate it to orphans,” his post on Facebook read.
Rizvi responded: “When the son of a head of government speaks like that about the chief of a popular political party, it leaves the people in shock and it also raises questions about his family’s cultural values.”
He said not only Khaleda, but the people of Bangladesh would like to know what the source of that money is.
“It’s now Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s responsibility to explain himself, not Khaleda Zia’s.”
Rizvi also hit out at Hasina saying that Joy was now a ‘headache’ for her.
He, however, was all praise for Joy’s late father Wazed Mia.
“I went to the same college where Dr Wazed did. His classmates were my teachers — in college as well as at Rajshahi University. Everyone remembers him as a decent and polite person.”
