Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday made a fervent appeal to the countrymen to cast their votes in the January 5 polls to give democracy a firm footing and to remain alert against any conspiracy like the 1/11 plot.

“I call upon each of the countrymen to cast your votes to further strengthen democracy and remain vigilant so that none could hatch any plot against the country’s people like the 1/11 one,” she said at a huge public rally at Azampur Primary School ground in the afternoon in support of party candidate Adv Sahara Khatun.

In a blistering attack on the opposition leader that she was killing people being aggrieved by not receiving any response to her movements, Hasina said: “I’ll request you to help nab and identify those who would commit such destructive acts,,, their trial will be held in Bangladesh.”

She added: “The BNP chairperson has burnt people to death in buses, killed pregnant women, even school going children. I’ll tell the opposition leader that the trial for these killings would be held in Bangladesh and Khaleda Zia would be made accused for giving orders for such killings.”

Alleging that the opposition leader is trying heart and soul to foil the 10th parliamentary polls, the PM also called upon the country’s people to beware of those who remained very active in the talk shows, wants to solve everything overnight, and their importance and value increases when any government emerges through any undemocratic and unconstitutional way.

She listed various development activities carried out across the country as well as in the capital over the last five years, especially the completion of Hatirjheel project, Mirpur Flyover, Kuril Flyover, Mayor Hanif Flyover, Banani overpass, the upcoming metro rail and elevated expressway projects.

Hasina said: “The heart of the BNP chief burns as the country is moving ahead in all fields. She (Khaleda) didn’t want in 1971 that Bangladesh become independent, for which she also doesn’t like that Bangladesh would be self-reliant and become a dignified nation. So, she is hatching plot to foil the January 5 polls.”

She alleged that the opposition leader is now patronizing the war criminals in the same manner she had patronized the killers of Bangabandhu.

The Awami League chief urged the voters to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming polls going spontaneously to the election centers. She said: “Don’t think why go to the polling center when AL has already won?”

She also sought votes for ‘Boat’, the election symbol of Awami League, as also to re-elect her party candidate Adv Sahara Khatun as in the 2008 national election.

Hasina said that if voted to power again through winning the January 5 polls, they would unleash massive development in the country, turn it as a middle income one by 2021 and a developed one by 2041, and thus build ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
