Blasting again the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-Jamaat clique for unleashing arson attacks and vandalism in the name of the so-called movement for three months since January, the prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said the people of the country could have gone their home more comfortably had the BNP-Jamaat not torched buses, rails and launches.

‘The amount of losses and damage the BNP-Jamaat incurred to the people over three months is simply indescribable,’ she said while inaugurating seven development projects through videoconferencing.
The seven projects are Thanchi-Alikadam Road in Bandarban district, upgradation of 16 killometers road to four lanes in Rangpur divisional city, Birulia-Ashulia Highway and Birulia Bridge in Dhaka and newly constructed passenger vessel MV Madhumati and two newly built ferries of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation.
Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, chief of army staff General Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Haque and secretaries concerned of the road transport and bridges ministry and shipping ministry spoke at the function held at Ganabhaban.
PM’s political affairs adviser HT Imam, PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim and other high officials of the PMO and concerned ministries were present on the occasion.
Sheikh Hasina mentioned that in her entire life she did not see such mindless atrocities like burning the people to death and destroying national property in the name of the movement.
In the name of the movement, she said, the BNP-Jamaat nexus has destroyed over 2000 buses and torched rail and uprooted rail tracks. ‘Even the launches were not spared from their arson attacks,’ she said.
She said it was only possible for BNP and Jamaat to commit such destruction and heinous crimes. ‘Those who are considered as human beings cannot commit such destruction and heinous crimes,’ she said.
The prime minister asked the authorities concerned to work with utmost sincerity to implement the budget and other projects and so that Bangladesh could be developed country by 2041.
She said Bangladesh has been recognized as a lower-middle income country. ‘But we do not want to remain as a lower-income country and we would be upgraded as a high-income country. So all will have to work with utmost sincerity to achieve the goal,’ she said.
Illustrating present government’s impressive successes on the socioeconomic front, the prime minister said her administration has a plan to establish a government school and college in every upazila to further expand education.
Sheikh Hasina said the work on upgradation of Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways to four lanes is progressing fast side by side with construction of huge number of roads and bridges across the country.
The prime minister said the shipping sector has got a new lease of life following the effective measures of her government.
While talking to local leaders and Bangladesh Army officials at Bandarban deputy commissioner’s office through videoconferencing, the prime minister said construction of Thanchi-Alikadam Highway in the remotest area of country has been possible thanks to the sincere efforts of the Bangladesh Army.
‘The construction of the highway would not have been possible had the Bangladesh Army not been involved in the project as it has been built in one of most remote, highest height and hilly areas of the country,’ she said.

  1. AL party people stage managed the killing of so many people. AL has all cadres of thuggish party leaders who are capable of stage managing all atrocities to make BNP look bad. Like Khaleda Zia said, even the police and other organs of the law enforcement agencies may have conducted these fire bombings just to blame the opposition parties. That way AL looks like saviors of Bangladesh against the terrorists. These were well planned activities by ruling party people. There are more criminals in the AL and it’s affiliated so called student parties. They are able to do anything.
