Opposition BNP on Thursday sharply criticised Awami League leader Mohammad Nasim for his “threat” to government officials and said it is tantamount to treason.
“We’ve seen in newspapers that Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim asked the government officials to carry out all the orders of the government until its tenure January 24. He threatened that those who will disobey will have to suffer and be sent back home,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi
“His (Nasim’s) remarks are devoid of political etiquette, illegal and tantamount to treason. It’s proved the government wants to hold a lopsided election by creating pressure on government officials,” he added.
Rizvi came up with the remarks at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
Earlier on Wednesday, Awami League Presidium member Mohammad Nasim asked the government officials to abide by the directives of the present government till January 24 next or face the music.
“Follow government directives till January 24 next, or else, you’ll have to face music… you’ll be sent back home,” he said while addressing a discussion organised by Jatiya Char Neta Parishad at Bangabandhu Avenue.
Reacting to Nasim’s remarks, Rizvi said, “We want to clearly state that there’ll be no use of threatening and intimidating government officials. There’s still time to bring a bill on non-party caretaker government in parliament. Or else, you must pay a heavy price.”
He alleged that the government, being isolated from people, has become desperate to hold a one-sided election. “They’re creating pressure on the administration to hold the polls under the current Prime Minister.”
The BNP leader also threatened that they will take to the streets together with people if the government does not resolve the crisis over the polls-time administration by October 24.
