Militancy, graft to come back with BNP’s return: PM

Accusing her arch rival BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia of attempting to kill her through grenade attacks, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said Khaleda has only two qualities — indulging in graft and killing.

“I know you (Khaleda) don’t want my existence,” Hasina said referring to grenade attacks on Awami League rally that killed many, including AL leader Ivy Rahman.

The Prime Minister was addressing a rally in Pabna district after unveiling the foundation of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (1st Phase) project.

Sheikh Hasina alleged that terrorism and militancy engulf the country whenever BNP-Jamaat returns to power as ‘BNP-Jamaat means terrorism and militancy’.

She said Awami League believes in development while BNP-Jamaat believes in looting public money.  “BNP’s return to power will only escalate corruption as it even looted orphans’ money,” Hasina claimed.

Describing her government’s development activities, the premier said Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project was supposed to be in place in the late 60s. “But, we unveiled the project today.”

Hasina, also the President of the ruling Awami League, highlighted her government’s achievements in health, education, food security, uprooting militancy and terrorism from the country.

The AL chief sought votes again for ‘Boat’, the election symbol of her party, and expressed her gratitude to the people of Pabna for electing five AL candidates in the last national election.

“There’s nothing for me to want for myself. What I only want is to bring back smile to the faces of people, remove poverty and ensure a bettering life for all. I seek your blessings,” she told her audience.
