Let us finish the revolution: Joy

The Prime Minister’s son mentioned the achievements of the past five years to stress on its continuity at a view-exchange programme with the country’s successful professionals on Friday.
He described what the Awami League had planned for the future once it was re-elected.

Bangladesh’s GDP will double if the Awami League returned to power, claimed Joy. GDP growth will rise from 6.5 to 8-10 percent while mobile-phone users will have 4G service, he added.

The impending general election will decide Bangladesh’s future and will be the most historic in terms of its consequence, he observed.

“Just think what the Awami League is capable of achieving in another five years because it has already made so much progress in a single term, this is why maintaining continuity is so important.”

Bangladesh is a ‘rising star’, said the international expert in the field of international technology.
“We are here because the pro-liberation force brought us here. I will urge you to keep this in mind and tell others to let us finish the revolution which is still not complete. You have to let the Awami League finish what it started.”

Youths should watch out for campaigns that are trying to confuse them with misinformation, said the Prime Minister’s son.

“The country will be pulled back to the abyss if power goes to someone else,” Joy warned.

“Bangladesh will be returned to its old state if there is a change in government. The development we strived for will be lost. Criminals are waiting to return when the BNP returns.”

The assassination of the nation’s founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a decisive blow to the nation’s progress, his grandson maintained.

“The forces who had opposed liberation took over and brought back war criminals and militants. That set us back. But even then the spirit of liberation could not be eliminated.”

Malaysia and Singapore have made major developments because those who fought for their liberation governed them to make progress, said Joy.

“But the force in favour of liberation was never given that chance in Bangladesh.”

He spoke extensively of the irregularities and misdeeds of the past BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami coalition government in the three-hour long programme. He shed light on their activities in contrast to the present Awami League government’s.

He said Bangladesh had topped the list of most corrupt country five times when the BNP-Jamaat was in power. “Now we are the 40th country on the list, this is a very big change.”

The programme, titled ‘Vision 2021: Achievements of the past five 5 years and promises for the 5 years ahead…’ being organised by ‘Suchinta Foundation’ began at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the afternoon.

Joy, dressed in a grey suit, came on the stage at around 4pm. He was joined by cricketer Sakib Al Hasan, musician Maksudul Haque and economist Abul Barakat.

The programme brings the Prime Minister’s son face to face with successful professionals and people tipped to emerge as future leaders, said host Mohammad A Arafat at the onset.

Cricket star Shakib Al Hasan, in his opening remark, said Bangladesh was doing well in cricket and wanted the trend to continue.

University students had formed the body of the audience and a free exchange of ideas was opened once Joy was over with his formal address.
