Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir addresses a discussion meeting organised by Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal, women front of BNP, at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Friday.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia would place before the nation proposals for forming a new election commission, said senior leaders of the party on Friday.
Standing committee members of the party Nazrul Islam Khan said that the Election Commission, those involved with the commission and the election-time government must be neutral for the election to be fair.
He said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia would place proposals before the nation to this end.
Nazrul said this in a discussion organised by Labour Party, a component of BNP-led alliance, in the capital.
In another programme, a human chain, he demanded forming a neutral judicial probe body to investigate the recent incidents on minorities.
Sampradaik Sampriti Forum organised the programme in front of the National Press Club.
Another standing committee member of the party Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said people would soon know BNP’s stand over the election commission.
BNP would place necessary proposals soon to ensure people’s voting rights and form a representative government and parliament, he said.
Khosru was addressing a discussion organised by Swadhinata Forum at National Press Club.
The tenure of the incumbent Election Commission would expire in next February.
In a separate programme, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that the government, being afraid of people, didn’t give BNP permission for holding a rally in the capital to observe November 7.
He apprehended that the government wouldn’t allow them to hold their planned public rally at the city’s Suhrawardy Udyan on November 13 to observe ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’.
Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal, women front of BNP, organised the discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity.
Addressing the programme, he said BNP sought permission for holding a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan but they did not get permission because Awami League was afraid of people.
He said the government didn’t hold election and removed provision of referendum from the constitution because they feared people.
‘They (Awami League) are afraid as they are isolated from people. Awami League has become politically bankrupt, so they have to depend on police and other law enforcers,’ he added.
Fakhrul said BNP never belittled Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia admitted his (Mujib’s) contribution.
But Awami League never admitted the contribution of Zia, founder of BNP, he alleged.
He said November 7 was not the programme of BNP or any person or group but an important day for the entire nation.
Presided over by Mahila Dal president Afroza Abbas, the discussion was addressed, among others, by BNP leaders Abdus Salam, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Mahila Dal general secretary Sultana Ahmed.
