Khaleda to appear before court Sunday!

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will appear before a Dhaka court for hearing in two graft cases if the government provides her with proper security, her advisor Khandaker Mahbub Hossain has said.

Khandaker Mahbub, also the President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), made the disclosure while speaking to the reporters at the office of SCBA on Thursday noon.

“The BNP Chief is respectful on law of the country. She wants to go to the court but it’s the government`s responsibility to provide her proper security,” Khandaker Mahbub said.

Khaleda has been staying inside her Gulshan political office since January 6. It is from there that she called nationwide blockade that is persisting until date in demands for a fresh participative national election.

The government has to ensure that she will not be attacked when she will go to the court, Khandakar Mahbub pointed.

“Khaleda Zia has not done any corruption in setting up of Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust. The cases were filed against her on charge of corruption to harass her politically,” he claimed.

On February 25, cancelling the time petition filed by Khaleda`s lawyer, the court issued two arrest warrants against the BNP chief in the two graft cases.

On July 3, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case with Ramna Police Station against six, including Khaleda Zia and her eldest son Tarique Rahman, for allegedly misusing Tk2.1 crore from the Zia Orphanage Trust funds.

On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed another case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing the BNP chief and three others for misappropriating Tk3.15 crore from the Zia Charitable Trust fund.
