Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday invited Awami League (AL) president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina for an Iftar in the Ramadan.
A BNP delegation led by party spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon carried the invitation letter to the AL president’s Dhanmondi office around noon and handed over it to the AL deputy office secretary Mrinal Kanti Das.
Talking to Prothom Alo, Asaduzzaman said Khaleda traditionally hosts Iftar for the country’s politicians in every Ramadan. “The BNP chairperson has invited Sheikh Hasina as the chief of a big political party in the country,” he said.
The BNP leader claimed that the invitation was not a “perfunctory one”. “The chairperson has invited her with a sincere hope that she will attend the programme scheduled for 21 June at Bashundhara International Convention Centre.”
The BNP leader claimed the invitation gives a message of positive trend in country’s politics and which would eventually help reduce the gap between the political parties.
Khaleda Zia would also invite other political leaders of different political parties in the Iftar.
