It’s again bizarre election, says BNP

Criticising the government for what it claimed failing to ensure fair polls, BNP on Wednesday termed the first phase of upazila polls bizarre ones arranged by an automatic Prime Minister.

“The government has repeated the same incident of stigma in the upazila polls what they earned during the January 5 election.  The automatic Prime Minister of the automatic parliament arranged a strange election today (Wednesday),” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.

Narrating the various incidents of “election fraud” by the ruling party ‘cadres’, the BNP leader said Awami League men captured many centres forcing out BNP-backed candidates’ polling agents and attacked the opposition leaders and activists in different upazilas during the elections.

He said the upazila polls have once again justified their demand for holding the national election under a non-party administration.

“Upazila polls have also exposed before the nation what would be the consequence if the BNP had joined the January 5 election under the Awami League government,” he observed.

The BNP leader also claimed that the ruling party ‘cadres’ have captured most centres in 7-8 upazilas.

Giving a long list of the upazilas where the ruling party men attacked BNP supporters and forced out agents of BNP-backed candidates, Rizvi said they will provide elaborate information at a press briefing on Thursday about ‘election fraud’ by Awami League.
