The flash flood triggered by last three day’s heavy rainfall inundated low-lying areas of the district, damaging dwelling places and standing crops.

The sun has not been sighted here since Tuesday, said local people.

The incessant rainfall, caused due to depression over the Bay, along with gusty wind caused sufferings to residents in the district especially in coastal Ashashuni and Shyamnagar upazilas.

Chairman of Gabura union in Shyamnagar upazila Masudul Alam said water level of local rivers rose by 2-3 feet more than normal due to the downpour.

The coastal 14-km cross dam has developed cracks at its 50 points. Local people are apprehending that more areas might be inundated as the dam may collapse any time, said the chairman.
