BNP led 20-party alliance has held their per-scheduled silent procession, holding black flags, from the BNP’s Nayapaltan headquarters on Saturday afternoon to protest against the Israeli attacks in Gaza.

Dhaka City BNP Convener Mirza Abbas said: “We are not holding the rally against government as it is only a protest against the killings in Gaza.”

The BNP leader also requested the activists to not to chant slogans against the government during the programme . He thanked all the leaders and activist of BNP for holding the rally.

Our Correspondent Mohammad al-Masum Molla reported from the spot: “The procession started from the party’s Nayapaltan office around 4pm. Among other senior leaders of the alliance, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir attended the programme.”

Earlier in the day, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police gave the permission to the BNP to bring out its black flag procession in the capital.

Earlier speaking about the Gaza issue, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League to play a greater role in the issue.

The party is also set to hold a rally on August 19 in protest of the recently approved National Broadcasting Policy.

Calling for the new broadcasting policy to be completely scrapped, the party spokesperson claimed that the move to introduce the policy was part of a conspiracy to establish one-party politics.

He also urged that all journalists to resist the broadcast policy.
