Voicing grave concern over the recent spate of abductions and killings across the country, Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Sunday demanded the government take immediate actions against the perpetrators to contain the crimes.

Addressing rallies at different places in Sadar upazila of the district, the JP chief also said people would take to the streets if the government remain reluctant about the deteriorating law and order situation.

About the development of Rangpur, Ershad, also a special envoy to the Prime Minister, underscored the importance of providing gas connections to the district for generating employments and industrialisation in the region.

Referring to the sixth-phase upazila elections, he asked his party leaders and activists to work for the party-backed candidates in the polls to be held in May 19 in northern districts to ensure their victories.

JP district unit secretary Abul Masud Chowdhary Nantu and former MP Makbul Shahriyar were, among others, present.
