Democracy went to ruins after we were gone: Ershad

The Jatiya Party chairman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s special ambassador Hussain Muhammad Ershad said there is no democracy in Bangladesh at the moment.

According to him, democracy went to ruins when they gave up power in 1990. The BNP and Awami League both have ruined democracy, one for power and the other for grasping on to it no matter what. Democracy cannot be saved by any of them. Only God knows how to contain these two party’s destructive political stances.

Ershad made these statements while talking to the media at Rangpur. Ershad is on a 4-day visit in Rangpur.

“Both the parties are responsible for the country’s current state. Awami League has the solution to this. AL can easily arrange talks with BNP and have debates or conversations on this matter. Now Jatiya Party has nothing to say if they are willing to do that or not. A previous arrangement made by the Jatiya Party for an all-party meeting has failed. None of the parties bothered to approach regarding this matter.”

Ershad also gave his reaction about Khaleda Zia’s press conference which was held on Friday. He said that the present condition of Bangladesh and its people is seen by everyone. Everyone is troubled. Whether Awami League will call a midterm election seeing all this havoc depends on them. But the solution to all these lie discussions rather than violence. Jatiya Party has always been beside the people. And they will always work for the people.

G M Kader, presidium member of Jatiya Party along with district’s Jatiya Party coordinator Mofazzel Hossain were present in the conference.

Sheikh Hasina’s special ambassador Hussain Muhammad Ershad said there is no democracy in Bangladesh at the moment.

The conduct for the special envoy demands that Ershad keeps his mouth shut about any failure of her majesties Government. Even If this crime falls short of being a treason, it is at least a breach of trust and he should seek forgiveness by falling on her feet and kissing them.

  3. It is another orchestrated drama Ershad is playing. He and the PM are on the same boat. Both of them murdered Zia and are in each other’s arm. They are brother and sister and are walking lock step to the same goal post. After the demise of BNP he will act as a ‘set up” opposition party. We will attain the perfect democracy as envisioned by our founding father in 1975. “Jago bangali jago” in only a metaphor. Bangladeshis are goats and Sheikh Hasina is the Shepherd.
