Court accepts charges against 148 opposition leaders

A court here on Monday accepted charges against 148 opposition leaders and activists including BNP leaders Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Amanullah Aman and Zainul Abdin Farroque in the cocktail explosion case.

Shahriar Mahmud Adnan, Judge of Metropolitan Judge’s Court Dhaka took cognisance the charges against the opposition men.

On March 11, Police raided the central office of opposition BNP and arrested over 150 party leaders and activists including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, former home minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and former Dhaka City Corporation Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka.

Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and Sadek Hossain Khoka were released a day after their arrest.

Earlier on Sunday, police pressed charges against the 148 opposition men in the case filed with Paltan Police Station under the Speedy Trial Act.

On March 20, the court rejected bail petitions against the opposition leaders and placed 151 opposition leaders and activists except Zainul, Aman and Rizvi on remand for their alleged involvement in assaulting police and blasting crude bombs near the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan.
