BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will hold eight rallies in different districts of the country from September 8 to drum up support for reinstating the caretaker government system.
Of the rallies, six will be held before Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims, while the two after Eid, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, acting secretary general of the party, revealed the information to reporters during a press briefing at the party central office in Nayapaltan of the capital on Monday.
The briefing was convened to inform the media about the outcome of the meeting held by top leaders of the 18-party alliance. The 18-party high-ups Sunday night during a two-hour meeting at the Gulshan office of Khaleda took the decision of holding the rallies.
According to the schedule, the BNP chief will hold her first rally in Narsingdi on September 8.
Later, Khaleda will hold the rallies in Rajshahi on September 15, in Rangpur on September 16, in Khulna on September 22, in Barisal on September 28 and in Sylhet on October 5.
The BNP leader however did not mention the date of Dhaka and Chittagong rallies that were scheduled to be held after Eid.
During the briefing, Fakhrul also informed the media that the BNP has already formed 56 groups for strengthening the organisational activities of the party and drum up support for restoring the caretaker government (CG) system.
The teams will conduct mass communication till August 31 throughout all the districts of the country to fulfill their aim.
Khaleda is scheduled to sit with the teams at 8:00pm at her Gulshan residence to discuss the actions of the groups, party sources said.
On queries why the opposition is launching such types of soft anti-government movement, Fakhrul relies: “We are providing the government time to restore the caretaker government system and after considering its activities we will launch our next course of action.”
