Director General of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) Sree Devendra Kumar Pathak has committed to stop killings on the common borders.

He made the commitment at a courtesy meeting with officials of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Banglabandha zero point under Tentulia upazila in Panchagarh this morning, reports BSS.

While exchanging views with Commander of Northwest Region of BGB Brig Gen Latiful Haider, Devendra Kumar said they would stop the “killings of common people” on the borders.

After the short courtesy discussion, Brig Gen Latiful Haider briefed local journalists and said the meeting was held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere.

They discussed common border issues to curb smuggling, trafficking of drugs, narcotics substances, women and children, stopping illegal trespassing and curbing terrorist activities on the frontiers through conducting joint patrolling.

The meeting also discussed issues like peaceful coexistence along the common borders, showing maximum restraints on special situations and resolving any issue through mutual cooperation and discussion between the two neighbouring border guards, he added.

Inspector General of North Bengal Frontiers of BSF Sree S K Sood, acting commander of Thakurgaon BGB Sector Lt Col Kamal Ahmed and Commanding Officer of Panchagarh 18 BGB Battalion Lt Col Ariful Haque attended the meeting.

The BGB officials asked the top level BSF delegation to hand over the Bangladeshi citizens to the BGB authorities in the future after their arrests along the borders following illegal trespassing into Indian territories, instead of handing them over to the Indian police.

High officials of the two frontiers also exchanged gifts. Earlier, Brig Gen Latiful Haider received the DG BSF with a floral wreath when he arrived at Banglabandha zero point around 9am and took him to the meeting place. A smart contingent of BGB jawans gave the BSF chief a guard of honour. He took the salute and inspected the guard before attending the short courtesy meeting, BGB members said.
