BNP’s any possible violence to be resisted: Hanif

Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Thursday said if BNP and Jamaat unleash violence on Friday, Awami League will resist that with a strong hand.

“People know it very well how to give a befitting reply to terrorist acts. It’s our scared duty to resist anarchy and terrorist acts. Awami League will be there on the streets with the people of the country to thwart any type of evil efforts of the opposition,” he said.

The Awami League leader said this while addressing an extended meeting of Awami League Dhaka City unit at its office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.

Hanif, also a special assistant to the Prime Minister, said the opposition leaders instructed its activists to take the streets with machetes and axes as in mediaeval age. “What type of democracy it is. People wouldn’t leave any scope for them to create anarchy with weapons?” he wondered.

The Awami League leader came down heavily on BNP chief Khaleda Zia for her speech that she has forgiven those who had mistreated her and her family members. “I want to ask her (Khaleda) who has sought pardon from her? …Who is she to forgive? It’s you (Khaleda) who have to seek pardon to the nation for your misdeeds.”

Awami League joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Awami League Dhaka City unit general secretary Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya and state minister for Law Quamrul Islam, among others, addressed spoke at the programme held with city unit acting president MA Aziz in the chair.
