Quota reform movement leader Nurul Haq Nur was elected VP of Ducsu  through Monday’s election while Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Golam Rabbani was elected general secretary

BNP has termed the results of Monday’s Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election as unusual and feared election engineering by the ruling quarter.

“The results are unusual with many inconsistencies. It can be said in a day or two whether election engineering was carried out by the Prime Minister’s Office or if any blueprint was implemented at the vice-chancellor’s (VC) residence,” the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Tuesday.

He made the remarks while addressing a press conference at BNP’s Naya Paltan headquarters.

He said that elections to student organizations are held through panels from VP to members, and all the members of a panel face close contests.

“But there’re big differences of votes among the VP and GS candidates of quota reform panel and that of Chhatra League in the Ducsu polls. We can call it unusual,” added Rizvi.

The voting in the long overdue election to Ducsu and its hall unions was held on Monday.

Quota reform movement leader Nurul Haq Nur was elected vice-president (VP) of Ducsu while Bangladesh Chhatra League General Secretary Golam Rabbani was elected general secretary. Eight among nine secretary posts also went to candidates from the Chhatra League panel.

BNP leader Rizvi alleged that an unprecedented incident took place on Monday in Ducsu’s history under the leadership of DU VC Md Akhtaruzzaman and it destroyed the university’s image.

“The government’s puppet VC indulged in a farce in the name of Ducsu polls,” he said.

Rizvi alleged that the DU VC arranged the election by holding the “unsatisfied soul” of Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in his body and allowed Chhatra League to commit “vote robbery.”

The BNP leader also appreciated the university students and different student bodies for strongly raising their voice against the “vote robbery” on DU campus, which has now turned into a den of Chhatra League “cadres.”
