Bangladesh war trial witness found in India

Key defence witness turns up in Indian jail after he disappeared before his testimony in Dhaka tribunal.

Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Delwar Hossain Sayadee, was sentenced to death in February for war crimes committed during the country’s war of independence in 1971.

Now a key witness in his trial, who disappeared before he could testify, has turned up in an Indian jail.

A British journalist in Bangladesh says he has evidence to prove that Shukhoranjan Bali was kidnapped by Bangladeshi security forces, leading many to question the fairness of the war trial.
