‘AL conspiring to turn Bangladesh into Afghanistan-like country’

Addressing a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, in the capital, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader further alleged that the ruling AL is giving shelter to militants. Uttaranchal Chhatra Forum organised the discussion marking the day of release of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman from jail. “None of the people being held on their suspected links to the militancy are being brought to justice; rather being killed in the name of gunfights,” said the senior leader of the opposition party.

He went on saying, “The Awami League is setting up traps of conspiracy. They want the country to turn into a failed state. They want to turn Bangladesh into a militant country. They want to turn Bangladesh into a country like Afghanistan, Syria and Libya. And we can’t allow it.” Mirza Fakhrul said the AL fought for democracy and led the liberation struggle. “But, that very party is destroying democracy in the country. This is their inherent characteristics. It becomes fascist once it assumes state power.” Source: Prothom-Alo
