On Friday, the BNP announced its 52-member committee, and former convener Khoka was made the adviser of the committee
Convener of the newly formed Dhaka city unit of BNP, Mirza Abbas, denied the existence of any faction within the party, saying the party members were united under the leadership of Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
“There are no groups led by me or Sadeque Hossain Khoka. This is only a rumour. There is only one group led by Khaleda Zia,” he told the press after the new committee’s first meeting at the BNP office in the city yesterday.
On Friday, the BNP announced its 52-member committee, and former convener Khoka was made the adviser of the committee. Abbas was reportedly unhappy over Khoka’s inclusion; Abbas and Khoka has had a long history of rivalry.
None of the advisers were present at the new committee’s first meeting, which lasted 40 minutes. Around 10 members of the committee were absent as well.
When asked about his grievance over Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel’s inclusion in the committee, Abbas handed over the loudspeaker to Sohel, who said: “Mirza Abbas is my elder brother and I am his younger brother. We are brothers.”
After the meeting, Abbas said Dhaka city failed to wage the expected movement, so people demanded a reshuffle of the committee.
He said the new committee was formed to fulfil people’s hopes and aspirations.
Abbas said the new committee would place wreaths at BNP’s founder late president Ziaur Rahman’s grave tomorrow around 11am.
At the meeting, the committee decided to prepare for intense movement after Eid to compel the government to accept election under a non-partisan interim government.
It also decided to reshuffle all the party thana and ward committees in the capital.
